About Minnephila and Owner, Dave Ruch
Hello, and thank you for stopping by to find out about Minnephila and its owner, Dave Ruch. Minnephila was born in the 1970s as a part-time business and operated until about 1982 when it became too much for Dave to handle his high-stress "real" job and do service to his many great customers (not to mention his family). Minnephila was resurrected in 2005 when Dave, nearing retirement, began to have more time to devote to his stamp business and its customers. In 2006, Dave's "real job" position was eliminated (just short of retirement, of course), and he decided to go into the business of selling stamps fulltime rather than search for a job.
Dave spent much of his working career in computers. In 1966, he obtained his first position as a computer operator. In 1967, he became a computer programmer for a large insurance company in Philadelphia. Later, Dave moved to Jacksonville, Florida to work for a bank on the south side of town. It was in Florida that Dave met and married Annette. In 1973, Dave was offered a position in Minneapolis, and he relocated. (Dave asks that you please do not question his sanity--he says he was young then.) Dave and his family have been there ever since.
Dave purchased his first stamp in 1955 in the Azores (where his Navy father was stationed) at the ripe old age of 8. That started a life-long passion for the little pieces of paper, and he still enjoys just about everything about them. In 1980, Dave joined the American Philatelic Society and has been member 112447 ever since.
Dave and wife Annette are private pilots and enjoy flying for fun around Minnesota and the surrounding states.
If you got this far, I commend your perseverance. Thank you for taking time to get to know a little about me and Minnephila. If I can be of assistance in helping you build your collection or answer any questions, please get in touch with me. Dave Ruch |
