McNeil did not close.
That push was underway two years or so ago. There was quite a bit of protesting by folks that do business there as well a a few historians.
The Austin White Lime Company which owns the building the Post Office is in, also offered to rent that space for $1 per year.
Ultimately the PO decided not to close it.
They have been renting PO boxes again for over a year. Close to forty of their boxes are the old brass ones with the letter combination locks.
The building the McNeil Post Office occupies is the only building in the 78651 zip code.

I am new here, I joined the MPPC and am waiting for my MPP to come from the printers. :D I have also started my own local post with stamps, have two issues one that will be released on August 27, 2012 and the second on October 15, 2012. The third deing designed now will be issued around December 7, 2012. Primarily they will be used to frank my own mail, and some will be sold. On August 27 I will issue three FDC's 1 regular and two limited to 20.

I am looking foward to my MPP  hopefully the postmaster will approve of the design, I can't afford to buy the normal MPP's with the wavey lines. I also will have a private mail local post cancel, and will frank all mail from me. I hope to add too the stamp collecting field.

those of you who sent me your snail mail address when I do the first day cover will get it. Due budget cutbacks namily wages cut there will be only 1 FDC per stamp issue. Issue 1 will be issued Aug. 27, the second issue will be issued Oct. 20 and the third is in design. The cachet will be different on the second issue. If you would like a MPP from Panama City, Florida send me your snail mail address.

My third design is comming along, there will be a MPP and my local post cancel on all FDC's. The fourth issue will
be the third if I can't get permission to use a set of pictures. The August 27th rollout will happen.

I received mine too! Thank you!

Unfortunately, mine did get a spray over, but I'm still very happy to receive it.

I'll send one along soon in return.
