How does "live" bidding work?

Postby yeknomecaps on Sat Jul 28, 2012 8:30 pm

Lots from the Harmer-Schau live auction are now on bidStart. How does bidStart live bidding work? Can you actually see the lots being sold so you know where the auction has progressed to? See the bids as they are placed by other bidders? etc. Can't find any direct link to tell me how it works.

Does my "regular" bidStart id work for "live" auctions?

To answer you questions - Yes.

You'll hear the audio from the auctioneer, and the lots with the bidding will stream on your screen. It is kind of cool. Almost like being there.

Just so people know, there is no live audio for the Harmer-Schau auction, only an automated voice announcing lot numbers.

I watched last night's session to get a feel for the application, as there are some lots tonight I want to bid on.

I've read on another philatelic board this morning some complaints from people who tried using Bidstart last night to make live bids, only to have their bids reach the floor AFTER the lots had closed. I don't know if that's due to network issues at the user's end, Bidstart's end, or Harmer-Schau's end.

I'll post back tonight after my lots close, since that's the first time I'll be using the application actively rather than just viewing.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out buyers premium proceeds will be distributed evenly between all BidStart sellers who sold at least one item before today's date. It was a nice touch from Mark. :D

I'm using that automated monotone voice announcing the lots to lower my blood pressure!

I had no problems using the system. It worked as advertised. I wish Harmer-Schau had used an audio feed though, as there were sometimes long pauses while lots were open and no way to know what the heck was going on... very annoying.

I only bid on one item, but was successful.
