Sorry - if you don't happen to have any extra children lying around, mine could be available for you, for a very reasonable fee...!!

I have found one thing, if you are browsing through a stores listing, that there are many blank photos that show up once you click on the individual lot. Maybe it is a matter of patience and you have to wait for all the photographs to load up because too often I have fussed at myself regarding no images until I went one step further only to realize they are there. The loading of photos really has improved when you are loading your lots. I do them individually but I use to walk through too fast and some didn't get loaded before I moved on. If anyone know a fast way to do scanning, cropping and numbering I'd sure like to learn. Someone wrote once they could lot 500 a day, unimaginable for myself. A good scanning program helps but it still time consuming. But truly the right way to go is to show an image of the stamp they will be purchasing. Dennis.

Also when I first started, I tried using a camera but the lighting effects the images too much and they come out really poor.

For what it is worth I always post scans of the actual stamp (not generics) I also take the trouble to include images of the reverse in cases where there may be doubt as to the condition.
It is very time consuming but I enjoy doing it and I believe that stamp collecting is a highly visual activity.
I will not buy individual stamps without an image.

Children!!

(Can't wait until mine can become my private chauffeurs...!!)

My only additional comment would be to avoid generic scans. Seems it would be just as much work, but with significantly less value. Several posts in the past about some new products that you can scan an entire stockcard of stamps & then cut each individual stamp into a stand-alone pic (?? Is my memory off or just going senile??)

But in general, it is simply the cost of doing business. You have to have a good picture, especially for higher value items.

Even better GRAND CHILDREN!

I have a couple - one 11 one 5 and they just LOVE to scan stamps and resize them etc for Nana.....the 5 year old now knows the stamps with the Queen's head is from England!
The 11 year old does Japanese at school.....she has now learnt about Prefectures, Japanese theatre and can recognise "Japan" in the writing! History, Geography and heaps of scans to list!
Just have to get them to learn to type and I'm laughing!!!
Always busy listing more stamps in my store - Please drop by and have a browse!

Here is a free program that allows you to scan many stamps on a page at once and then "burst" them out into individual images. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Graphic-Others/Stamp-Image-Bursting-Application.shtml
I've found this little program a real time saver. It has a little trouble with certain cancellations but you can manually edit the image before you finish.

Yes, I use this program as well to rotate images as it can rotate by a degree at a time (most free programs only give you 90 degree increments).
