slow listing pages all weekend

Postby dougrugman on Sun Nov 01, 2009 2:16 pm

listing pages have been very slow all weekend,(spinning wheels many times). when selecting categories the page stops and have to reload to make the selections(not always--but alot).Pictures do not load all the time and have to go to auction and reload the picture after listing auction.(not always--but alot). Many times picture preview page does not preview the picture and have to check for picture after listing the auction.

Perhaps this is a problem with your browser or ISP. My Firefox was very annoying yesterday, so I used Google Chrome which is much faster as Mark suggested. I list in bulk, so I didn't like having to fly blind with no grid review being provided with Google Chrome. I set the auctions to start a few minutes into the future, so I had an opportunity to review my scheduled auctions before they started, so that was an acceptable workaround for me. Today my Firefox is working much better, so I'm using it for my bulk uploads. I'm still using version 3.0.15 and some automatic updates were installed this morning. I'm guessing that did the trick. I'm hoping Mark will have time to set up a grid review for use with Google Chrome soon. Once done, I will stop using Firefox. .... John

This is interesting.

I can tell you that since I upgraded to FF 3.5.4 from 3.5.3 late last week, the spinning wheels appear for only 2-3 seconds (and that's on dial-up). Whereas previously, it would often take 5-10 seconds before finishing.

I haven't tried Chrome in while. I had given up on it because it was incredibly slow on dial-up. Maybe I should try it again and see if things have changed.

If it is my browser then could someone please explain why things are fine all day long and then in late after noon and evening stampswants slows to a crawl and all the wheels start spinning, pages do not flip for awhile and sometimes goes to white page and have to X out and resign in again to get things going?

Theres no reason from our end that StampWants would be loading slower in the afternoon/evening, though it would be odd if your browser was causing issues at a specific time - which could mean it's your ISP. The easiest way to start to figure this out is to try a different Internet browser. For example install Google Chrome (http://www.google.com/chrome) It won't affect your current Internet browser but if you start having an issue switch browsers and see if you have the same issue. If you don't - then the problem is somehow related to your Internet browser. If you do still have the same problem then we can rule out your Internet browser being the issue.
