Some of the postal scales at some post offices have the outlines of various envelope sizes. I had that argument at first too about the 6x9 envelopes until I told them to place the envelope on the template. Goes out letter size for quite a while now.

WOW! No, that's definitely not right unless it's VERY thick with padding, cardboard, a lumpy object, etc. (the same stuff M# spoke of)

You're right that each P.O. can live in it's own little universe as far as the way they interpret the rules. I'm thinking it's a huge red flag that the rules need to be simplified.

If it's thicker than 1/4", then it goes into the large envelope category.

The one advantage to having an envelope trip the parcel flag is that you can then add Delivery Confirmation for 19¢ when you record the parcel electronically either (1) through PayPal, if you got the payment that way, (2) through the USPS site, or (3) through your installation of the USPS Shipping Assistant software.

I try to do this with any purchase of value to protect myself against a PayPal chargeback for non-delivery. You can also then drop the parcel into the big bin adjacent to the APC machines and it'll be scanned into the system at the point of origin. (At least this is true at the two post offices I use regularly.)

But this does put postage costs in the $1.50 range, which was my point a few posts back, that just putting a 44¢ stamp on an envelope wasn't sufficient for me, and why my shipping charge usually doesn't cover, or, at best, barely covers, the postage charge.

Kurt mailed me DM in a 6 x 9 envelope, marked "Do Not Bend", 1.5 ounces - His postage $0.81 - $0.61 + $0.20 nonmachinable.

I mailed it to John - Everything exactly the same - my postage - $1.39 Package rate. The PO here insists that is correct - the 6 x 9 is considered a large envelope and along with the "Do Not Bend" it falls into package rate.

So, who's PO is correct? Seems to be a considerable difference in interpretation among PO's.

Just slap on $9.40 postage. Then there shouldn't be any problems. At least not from the USPS end.

Michael, I didn't mean to let this post drift this far downstream before getting back to it. Congratulations!

This is a good problem to be having!

(I've got to figure out a way to stay motivated. Is there a support group for this somewhere? :? )

And congratulations to all the high-volume sellers, especially those that are 1-person (or nearly so) operations!

And speaking of laboring,

Happy Labor Day weekend to everyone!

Thanks, Dave, but as you pointed out, many of the sellers are solo acts with fulltime jobs, families and other obligations. It is amazing how some of them have been able to have so many items in their store! I salute them too!

Bingo, G11 anything off th the top row. I have looked at this forum and there are many issues to be looked at. But in my repsective to my store I am very simple. Easy is best. I take check and money order....(It gives me room to adjust and do whatever I want) Paypal is a dog unless you are high end and don't care about those fees. I choose my direction due to the fact that "It only takes about 5 mins to send a letter". I do not depend on outside groups to do my work. Hey, who buys covers? The best ones are from the good folks that like your material. Don't forget what it is all about.

I must admit that I'm evasive to anything that complies to a control. But you Big Dog sellers seem to just complain.

I certainly am not complaining about my not being able to keep 5000 lots in my store. Far from it!
