Welcome to the StampWants Forum!

Since you did not post a picture of your stamp, I assume you want to know if it is Scott #85C.

To learn about the different types of grill (and specificaly, the characteristics of the Z grill), you can visit http://www.1847usa.com/identify.htm and scroll down to the section on grills.

The 6 stamps with the Z grill are listed at http://www.1847usa.com/Sc62_111.htm.

Hi Kim: Lets make it a little easier for our friend from La Francaise. A "Z GRILL" measurtes about 11x13mm (14 by 15 to 17 points.)

Bonjour,

Dennis (bookguy) :wtf:

Mercury,

Your English can be understood. No problem.

I looked at your scan. The stamp does not appear to have a grill. But I am not very good with US classics, so maybe someone else can tell you.

Yes, actually I have lots of questions about early French stamps -- especially the number cancels. But I don't have enough time to finish sorting my early France.

Add into it that it's often very hard to tell if a used stamp has a grill at all, due to the fibers going back into place if it was pressed after soaking. I've had a bunch of used 1869 issues that should have grills but you can't see any sign of there having been one.
