UK National Post Strike

Postby estampshop on Thu Oct 15, 2009 11:45 am

It has just been confirmed that there will be two 24 hour national strikes by Royal Mail commencing on Thursday 22 October.

On the first day, mail centre staff and drivers will strike. The next day it will be delivery and collection staff, so that's really a 48 hour strike as far as customers are concerned.

The last round of 24 hour strikes caused local backlogs which took a few weeks to completely clear, so expect delivery times for everything to/from/within the UK to be delayed until mid November, by which time there will probably be another one.

Apparently, and this is what I have heard, Edinburgh is shipping out 40 foot sea freight containers worth of mail to other places around Scotland to be sorted. It can't keep up with the mail and the strike.

Funny thing is, I still ship with Royal Mail. Why? I haven't seen any of the effects yet! Most all of my international mail is still arriving within a week.

Talk about local delivery....a bit different but Parcel Force has increased their prices as well - as of this month! They usually change it around in January but couldn't help but change it now since they know people will need to ship with them (as FedEx and UPS is a much larger jump in price).

Will keep everyone informed as to how it is here up in the chilly, froxen Scotland....
