India Question

Postby jbtb1096 on Fri Jul 06, 2012 12:13 pm

I was wondering if Scott lists a value yet for a # 11 imperf single. I have one on a partial cover and have attached a scan of it.

Thanks,

Jim

The reason Scott lists these issues as imperf pairs is precisely because the lower value single perf can be trimmed to "become an imperf" so their value is for a pair, which is really the only full proof method of determining something in this era is truly an imperf and not a trimmed sister stamp.

Yes it is tied to cover. Look at the right margin. If you had it in your possession you would see it.

I forgot to mention that another way you can tell an imperf vs trimmed perf among these older stamps (I guess, any stamp era!) is if the single has a generous margin on one site and a portion of another stamp at the edge. Then it shows that at least on that edge it is imperf. Sadly these are not considered pairs for Scott listings so you still don't have a value for a single imperf.

As for these issues not being used for postage, ... what would they have been used for? Revenues? But then Scott would not list them if they were not also used for postage.

Looks like different ink was used on the right side to try to tie the stamp to the cover. The cancel line extending from the stamp to the cover on the right side is elongated and curved and a different ink. The cancel would not be curved like that, and would be of the same black ink as used in the cancel.
