Description
Rambling, musings and an occasional insight!
Welcome to my StampWants profile! I'm from the Show-Me State of Missouri. I am indeed a man of many hobbies! I am into amateur radio, emergency communications, "real" BBQ, coins, stamps, and collectible covers, just to name a few... Right now my primary interest in collecting is in the area of polar postal history, and I consider myself as a polar postal historian, which indicates more depth than a casual collector. I am always looking for new material to add to my collections, and I illustrate a lot of my findings on my polar philately page. I think polar philately is a wonderful specialty within the main area of stamp and cover collecting, and is a way of being a vicarious explorer of the polar regions. Since I have folks occasionally ask me questions about this hobby, I have explained it in depth on a separate webpage, especially designed for beginners or those with a casual interest... check it out on my polar philately page! I have included a link below.
My Collecting Interests
I have collected stamps since I was young, and I began collecting naval and polar covers in 1981. I am a member of the Universal Ship Cancellation Society, Mailer's Postmark Permit Club, Local Post Collectors Society and was a member of the American Society of Polar Philatelists for many years. My current prime area of interest is that of polar philately, including items from the Arctic, Antarctic and land stations; with a special affection for items from North Pole Expeditions and under-ice polar submarine missions. In addition, I also collect modern-day local posts, of which I have my own - called the Spring River Local Post, which has been in continuous operation since August of 1983. I also collect Mailer's Postmark Permits, first flight covers, event covers and other various and sundry philatelic oddities. If it is "different"- there is a strong chance I'd probably like it! You will find my polar philately page at the link provided below. Thanks for dropping by, I appreciate it. I am still also on that "other site", where my user is polarcom and my rating is 375 + (both a buyer and seller)
