We'd like to take this time to highlight a few of the different advanced searching and browsing techniques we offer - to help you in your quest for the perfect items!
My Want List
The StampWants My Want List feature allows you to enter in your Want List for any type of item (not just stamps), and allows you to easily view all items on our website which match your entire Want List - with just one click! We will also email you when new items are listed which match your Want List. If you're not already using our Want List feature get started today by logging into your StampWants account and selecting the 'My Want List' option found under the 'Buying' heading on the left hand side of the My StampWants area.
New Listing Emails Matching Your Favorite Searches & Sellers
About once a week we send out a Recommended Items email with new items we believe may be of interest to you. However, did you know that you can easily help us help you, by simply saving searches you use often? Whenever you search for anything on StampWants.com you can click at the top of the item results on the 'Save this Search' link. This allows you to easily run the same search again in the future, but we will also add a special section to our Recommended Items email for you based exclusively on new items matching your saved searches! We'll also do the same thing when you save a seller as one of your 'Favorite Sellers', which can be done on any item listing page under the seller's username.
Gallery View, Mini Gallery View & More
When you browse or search on StampWants.com we present all results to you in a list form with images and various item information including price, shipping and seller. But that's not the only way you can view items. By clicking on the 'View' drop down menu at the top of any item results screen you can select from several different view modes. For example, try Mini Gallery mode:
Search by Title & Description, or Other Search Modes
By default when you search on StampWants.com we use our smart search mode to find what you want and return the most relevant results. However, depending on what you are looking for it may be helpful to switch search modes under the 'Refine Your Search' box on the left hand side of all item results pages. For example, if you can't find what you are looking for and you are searching by keywords try expanding your search to include descriptions as well as titles by selecting the 'Titles & Descriptions' search mode. If you are searching for a stamp by scott number, or a coin by year, and you find too many results which aren't relevant (which often happens for low Scott numbers below about 25 or so) try switching to 'Restricted Mode'.
Change the Default Sort By
Try exploring the different sorting modes we offer under the 'Sort By' drop down box at the top of any item results page. You can sort by newest listings first, price and various other options. You can even get an idea of what items are 'hot' by sorting by the number of views or bids.
Advanced Search Options
Exclusion: Placing a - (minus sign) before any word will exculde the word.
Example: '591 -pair' will match all 591s excluding pairs
OR Searching: By default all searches are AND, however you can use OR between any two keywords.
Example: 'Canada 51 OR 57' will match all Canada 51s and Canada 57s
Wildcards: Place a * at the end of two or more letters to enable wildcard searching.
Example: 'Fr*' will match France, French, Franklin, etc.
Number Ranges: Place a - (minus sign, no spaces) between any two numbers to enable a range search (max 100).
Example: 230-245 will match 230 through 245.
Exclude a Particular Seller
If you're looking through a list of items and you don't want to see any results from a particular seller click on the small 'X' button to the right of the seller's username in the item results list.
