1) StampWants.com My Community - A Whole New Way to Use StampWants.com

StampWants.com is proud to launch a new and exciting way to use StampWants - the My Community area. StampWants My Community is a revolutionary way to connect with other StampWants members, form virtual groups/clubs, browse stamps and more.

You may have heard of the idea of social networking websites, such as "MySpace" or "Facebook," well StampWants My Community is basically a social networking website built around philately and StampWants.com.

Every StampWants.com member automatically gets a My Community profile. Here you can display information, pictures of yourself and your stamp interests. If you are a seller, items you have for sale will automatically be included on your profile page. Additionally, both buyers and sellers can share "Items Matching My Want List", "Items I'm Bidding On", "Items I'm Watching", and "Items I've Won". By sharing this information you can display a small list of items on your profile page. If you don't want to share this information, you can easily turn it off. We recommend that all StampWants.com members visit the My Community section (click on Forum & Community in the StampWants.com header) to set your preferences. By default, items matching your want list are displayed on your profile, since these items are selected based on your interests, but do not necessarily reflect actual items you intend on purchasing. "Items I'm Bidding On" and "Items I'm Watching" sections are not displayed on your profile by default, as you may not want to share this information, since it is based on actual items you are interested in purchasing. "Items I've Won" are also set to be shared on your profile by default, but again this can easily be changed.

The real fun and innovation of the StampWants My Community starts with "Friends." Search or visit any StampWants.com member, where you can click "Add as Friend" to add them as your friend. Once someone is added to your Friend list, you can easily visit their profile from your own. If your friends share your stamps interests, and share the items they are interested in on their profiles, you can easily view them to see if you are interested in those items as well. Besides just looking at items, you can also leave comments on your Friend's pages, and much, much more.

By far, the most innovative and exciting part of the StampWants My Community area is the all new Groups feature. Groups are basically mini virtual stamp clubs. You can join or even create a group with ease in the Groups section. Once you join a group you will have access to all of the group's features. Groups include their own group specific forum, image galleries and more. The best part of a group however, is the collective "Items We're Selling", "Items Matching Our Want List", "Items We're Bidding On", "Items We're Watching", and "Items We've Won" sections. Any group member who shares their information with their group (as set in the Privacy Setting of your My Community Account Details section) will contribute to a collective set of items. This means that you can easily form and join groups based on similar interests to others. Then you can stop by your group, and instantly view items that other members with your same interests are interested in!

Groups can be created based on many different things. However, one great way StampWants My Community Groups can be used are as virtual versions of real life stamp clubs. If you run, or are a member of a stamp club in your area, why not have your club start a virtual representation of itself on StampWants! The best part is it's free, and will allow you and your club to enjoy stamps in a whole new way. You'll have your own forum, so you can discuss anything you would like at any time, not just during real meetings. You can even set up events, create image galleries and upload pictures. All of these features come standard with My Community Groups, and are all 100% free. If you'd like more information for your stamp club or organization, just email us at support@stampwants.com

Ever think about starting your own stamp blog, but didn't have the time or know how? With StampWants My Community it's as easy as clicking on Blog, and then Post New Blog! Have your own blog up in minutes, and watch as other StampWants members read and comment on your entries! Or, read other StampWants members blogs and comment on theirs.

These are just some of the many, many exciting new features included in the all new StampWants My Community area. Be sure to check them all out by clicking on "Forum & Community" at the top of StampWants.com (we recommend that you first make sure you are logged into your StampWants.com account).

2) eBay Price Adjustments Revisted - Say Goodbye to Fixed Price / Store Items Under $1 on eBay

Last week we were one of the first companies to break through eBay's cryptic fee reduction announcement, and expose the 67% fee increase on auction items under $25, which will lead to a 40% total increase on these items! Since then, we've re-read through the announcement, and all of the hard to find links to discover even more disturbing news.

One major issue is the eBay Power Seller fee reduction program. Some people thought this should help offset some of the fee increases, because they would receive 15% off their final value fees as a Power Seller. However, upon closer examination, this also lead to a false hope for lower overall fees. Only Power Sellers who have over 4.8 out of 5.0 on all four new eBay feedback categories will receive 15% off final value fees. Yet not one of the many Power Sellers we spoke with obtained this rating, mostly due to 4.5-4.7's in shipping charges and shipping and handling time. We went directly to eBay and looked at dozens of Philatelic Power Sellers, many highly reputable dealers, and were still unable to find even one person who would qualify for the 15% refund. For those with 4.6's across the board, a 5% refund will apply, but this is only after as much as a 67% increase anyway!

There are also several other issues, including that sellers will no longer be able to leave negative feedback for buyers. But one policy change in particular is sure to have far reaching consequences - eBay's policy regarding fixed price listings and store items under $1.00. Starting February 20 - THEY'RE NOT ALLOWED! After February 20, you will no longer be able to list any item with a fixed price or in your store under $1.00. If you have existing items which are under $1.00 you will have 60 days to increase the prices. If you do not increase the price of or cancel these listings, you'll still be charged for them, but they won't show up in search results!

Additionally, you will no longer be able to accept best offers under $1, or mark items on sale lower than $1. If your eBay store has items under $1, we suggest you contact us immediately to help you move your store to StampWants.com, otherwise you'll soon be paying for items which no one can search for! We can help you import your items from eBay with ease, and on StampWants.com you can be sure your items under $1 won't be banned from our site!

Just to note, while eBay claims to listen to their customers, we actually do. One concern on StampWants.com was that there are many lower priced items (under $1) that often get in the way when browsing or searching for more expensive items. On StampWants, we solved this problems a while ago, and not by banning these items, since there are many sellers and collectors who love these items. What we did was set up a Minimum Price Slider at the top of every category. Just slide the slider any where along the bar and instantly remove any items under a certain price. With searching from the advanced search page you can do even more by setting the exact price range of items you wish to see.
