1) Goodbye to Forgotten PayPal Updates on StampWants.com

When a buyer pays a seller for items they have purchased on StampWants.com using PayPal, PayPal sends a notification to StampWants.com - so that we can update the paid status. Without this confirmation we can not be certain that a payment has been made successfully. This notification usually arrives within a few seconds, so for all intents and purposes as soon as a buyer pays with PayPal, the buyer and seller will see the item as paid in their StampWants accounts.

However, PayPal sometimes delays in sending these notices, and on occasion PayPal will not send them at all! This is obviously a problem because buyers may wind up paying twice, and sellers may think an item is unpaid, when it has in fact been paid. PayPal has been aware of this problem not just for StampWants.com, but many other webistes that use PayPal as well. However, instead of fixing the problem it appears to be getting worse. To combat this problem, we've added a new paid status for sellers - "Pending...". Now, when a buyer pays with PayPal, as long as they return to StampWants afterwards, their paid status (the buyer's) will automatically be set to "Paid with PayPal". For sellers, the paid status will be marked as "Pending..." (in the Items I've Sold section "Pending..." items will have a blue dollar sign paid icon as opposed to green).

As long as PayPal sends us a notification as it is supposed to, these blue dollar signs will only last about a second or two, before changing to green and being marked as "Paid with PayPal". However, in the event that PayPal does not send an update notification these items will remain as paid status "Pending...". In these cases you should manually check your PayPal account to confirm payment, and if payment has been made - manually change the paid status on StampWants to "Paid with PayPal" and proceed as normal.

This will ensure (as long as the buyer continues back to StampWants, as indicated, after making payment on PayPal) that no buyer pays twice. Sellers will also not need to worry about missing payments, but will also be able to know which payments they should double check manually.

One additional note - when a buyer pays with a PayPal eCheck, the payment will remain as "Pending..." for a few days until the eCheck clears.

2) StampWants Consignments Live Coin Auction # 2 Re-scheduled

The StampWants Consignments Live Coin Auction # 2 originally scheduled for today, Thursday, Oct 23, has been combined with our next Live Coin Auction. This auction will be held live on Thursday, Nov 13. It should be posted on our site by this upcoming Monday (Oct 27), which will allow plenty of time for absentee bidding.
